• Intimacy Choreographer & Coordinator

As an Intimacy Choreographer (Theatre/Live Performance) and Intimacy Coordinator (Film/TV), I'm the person who choreographs the moments of intimacy within the production. My job is to help bring the Director's vision to life while working within the boundaries set by all the Actors involved.

My Process - Intimacy Choreographer and Coordinator

I lstart with reading the script to make note of the requirements of the script. I then meet with the Director to learn their vision and request they may have.

My first meeting is with the Director prior to taking on any job to review the production, their vision, and determine my involvement. This way it can be determined by both parties if I'm a good fit.

Once I'm hired I connect with the Actors 1:1 to review their boundaries, the needs and asks of the script, and how I can support them and the story they'll be telling. I like to learn from the Actors the best way I can support them. Every Actor and every moment of storytelling is different. Some need more suppor than others. I want the Actors at any point during the process to have autonomy over themselves and be a part of the decision making of the choreography.

At the first rehearsal I check-in with the Actors. We review the script and choreography before we proceed. I do check-ins and any adjustments to the choreogrpahy as needed.

A note I like Directors and Actors to be aware of - boundaries are fluid and can change at any time. Boundaries for one particular scene can be different for another. As an Intimacy Director I give the Actors placeholders to help them be able to rehearse the moments of intimacy until tech week and the performances.
